Europe steel sections

EN 10365 (IPE / HE) · 48 sections

European hot-rolled sections follow EN 10365. The IPE series are parallel-flange I-beams, deep and narrow for bending; the HE series are wide-flange H-sections, with HEA the lighter and HEB the standard (heavier) range, used as columns and high-capacity members. Design is to EN 1993 (Eurocode 3).

Designations give nominal depth in millimetres (IPE300, HEA300, HEB300). The tables below list dimensions and section properties including elastic and plastic moduli.

Frequently asked

What standard covers European IPE and HE sections?
Dimensions are to EN 10365 (superseding the older Euronorm tables); design is to EN 1993-1-1 (Eurocode 3). Common grades are S235 and S355.
What is the difference between IPE, HEA and HEB?
IPE are deep, narrow beams for bending. HEA and HEB are wide-flange H-sections (width about equal to depth); at the same size HEB is heavier and stronger than HEA.
How do I read IPE300?
The number is the nominal depth in millimetres (300 mm). Each size has a fixed mass per metre defined by EN 10365.
